“As in water face reflects face, so a man’s heart reveals the man.” Proverbs 27:19
I can’t tell you how many times over the years I’ve stood in front of the mirror, “putting on my face” and getting ready for the day ahead. I had to make sure every blemish was concealed; every hair was in the right place, each eyebrow was plucked to perfection and that my lipstick was flawless. My reasoning was that if I looked good on the outside, I must be good on the inside as well, right? But I didn’t know Christ then, and even though that mirror reflected back a “perfect” face, my actions spoke volumes about my imperfect heart. Even though I could change and perfect my outside, try as I might, I could never change my inside. And it wasn’t until I accepted Christ that my heart, and my life, was changed forever.
A man’s heart may reveal the man, but a Christian’s heart also reveals God’s mercy, compassion, and grace to others. Christ said, “Where your heart is, there your treasure will be also” (Matt. 6:21) and I can think of no greater treasure than the love of My Savior, My Father, My Jehovah!! I’m so thankful that what’s in my heart now will lead others to that love.
